Datacom Systems' New 10G Data Filtering TAPs and Switches Enable More Efficient and Affordable Network Monitoring for Distributed and Decentralized Networks

EAST SYRACUSE, N.Y., Nov 18, 2009 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- (Interop Booth #930) - Datacom Systems Inc., the most trusted manufacturer of innovative network access solutions, announced today that it will launch a new line of affordable 10 Gigabit data-filtering link aggregation TAPs and data access switches at Interop, set for Nov. 16-20 at New York City's Jacob Javits Convention Center. The new devices provide test and monitoring access for 10 Gigabit networks, improve monitoring efficiency and optimize network resources particularly for decentralized environments such as remote offices or anywhere departments and autonomous groups need efficient access to network data.

"Many of today's new solutions are geared toward centralizing monitoring resources," said Chris Koeneman, vice president of sales and marketing at Datacom Systems. "While in some cases centralization can be ideal theoretically, we find that many times these solutions are too costly to purchase, too complex to manage, and simply unrealistic for many of our customer's needs. This new line of products is aimed at providing the appropriate amount of technology, exactly where it is needed in the network - efficiently and effectively." Ideal for distributed or decentralized networks, this new line of devices is easy to manage, flexible and scales gracefully to multiple locations. Priced more affordably than most alternative solutions, Datacom Systems' devices allow companies to save money, while decreasing the time and resources it takes to implement and manage monitoring access solutions across multiple locations.

SINGLEstream 10 Gigabit Link Aggregation Taps SINGLEstream 10G Link Aggregation Taps provide in-line full-duplex visibility at 10G, even for single interface monitoring applications. The SINGLEstream line of 10G link aggregation taps enables bi-directional monitoring of 10 Gigabit full duplex links by aggregating both Tx and Rx data streams into one single stream of traffic, allowing any connected monitoring device - including those with only one NIC - to receive a complete copy of all the data in a single trace file. SINGLEstream taps reduce dependence on network switch resources to improve network performance and visibility, and provide a single point of deployment and remote management to maximize IT staff efficiency and reduce MTTR.

While still flexible and easy to manage, the addition of data filtering to these taps allows network personnel to customize what traffic their monitoring tools receive. As a result, network traffic can be load balanced or reduced to improve monitoring efficiency and eliminate the possibility of port oversubscription.

VERSAstream 10 Gigabit Data Access Switches Datacom Systems' VERSAstream 10G Data Access Switches with data filtering help network and security professionals overcome monitoring, troubleshooting and deployment bottlenecks by providing efficient out-of-band monitoring access to 10 Gigabit networks. Advanced filtering technology allows network analysts to customize the traffic flow sent to any monitoring tool based on configurable filters, such as IP address, port number, MAC address, VLAN, frame, protocol type, or customizable off sets in the IP header.

By aggregating and regenerating network traffic, the VERSAstream line provides visibility for multiple monitoring tools into multiple network segments. Any-to-any port steering allows personnel to direct traffic from one port to any other port, eliminating the need for complicated port reconfiguration or physically relocating tools around the network. Some models, such as the VS-1214 with its14 total configurable ports and the 4-port (XFP) 10 Gb to 10-port Gigabit (SFP), continue to bridge the gap between 10G networks and 1G tools.

"By applying aggregation and filtering, even a 1 Gigabit tool can monitor a 10 Gigabit network," said Koeneman. "This provides tremendous value to customers who may not have 10 Gigabit monitoring tools, but are nevertheless required to upgrade their networks to meet today's performance demands."
